I really like Szechuan Garden. It is the best Chinese restaurant I've eaten at in the area- high quality, moderately expensive but with large portions. If you order from their dinner specials, you generally get two meals out of the food served. I've eaten their General Tso's several times, and it is easily the best I've had- the spices are just right. There is a huge menu available here, though- much of it recognizable fare, but with a few quirks that make repeat visits worthwhile. The spring rolls are exquisite- genuine delicacies when they're piping hot. Again, the portions are huge, so be prepared to eat when you com here. I ordered carryout from here once, and the portions seem to decrease. That said, this restaurant is a gem that I highly recommend.

Americanrized crappy chinese food. End of story. If you're chinese, avoid this place. Food is wayyyyyyyyy too sweet.

Excellent place. Wide selection (try the duck!) friendly service and good atmosphere. Always a pleasure to dine here. We go at least once a month...and while it can be a little pricey it is well worth it.

For my chinese fix, you'll find me across the highway at Lin's Wok next to PayLess. I had a weeknight dinner with my parents here recently, and the experience left much to be desired. I'd been here before, but for some reason I never had an opinion about it. The decor here is nice, better than most standard Chinese joints. The service was not only slow, but unfriendly. The waitress didn't even crack a smile, say thanks or even say "you're welcome" when we thanked her. It sort of made it awkward when she came around (which wasn't much so that's a plus I guess). Now I'm not a pick Chinese food eater. I'm usually satisfied with anything, but my dish was really bland. Like, airport Chinese has more flavor than the beef with broccoli dish I got. The sweet and sour pork was yummy, and the cashew chicken left much to be desired. Like I said, just head on over to Lin's Wok across the highway. The interior is not as nice, but it's cheaper and the food always a hit. They are my go-to takeout place when I'm back in town.

the food is terrible, I won't go again. I had peper shrimp and some fish, they are not fresh and tasty is so bad. Also the rice served is not fresh neither. For Chinese, I wanna say do not try it, never and ever.

The waitress was very rude and we would never go to the place again.

Service was poor to say the least. Limited menu and no specials(no combos). Purchased 2 dinners, given one serving of rice. Given spring roll instead of egg roll. Rice over liked. Food flavorless. Sweet and sour pork was awful, not only flavorless just terrible. The sweet and sour tasted like nothing! We had to douse with sauce to make food edible. It's not just me there are 2 others here and wall agree it was an overpriced awful meal and we're never going back.

Szechuan Garden is your basic not-very-Americanized Chinese restaurant. We've only eaten there for lunch, but have uniformly enjoyed it each time we've been. The lunch menu, while not enormous, has a decent variety, ample quantities and was well prepared. I really enjoy the staff here as well. Not a place that I'd plan on for a really special evening out, but if you're in the mood for a good Chinese meal, it's well worth a stop.

The number one dine in Chinese restaurant in Lafayette area. The service is unbeatable, food is delectable. I love their garnishments too. I have been going there for the past 15 years and have never been disappointed. Oh, and lunch specials are impressive.

Terrible service. I told server the food is tooooo salty. But the server does not care at all. "It you can't eat it, you can't eat, it's the way it is." Then she just walked away.

The food doesn't compare to any other Chinese food I've ever had. The selection is truly authentic and rare and very fresh. Perfect location for family style dining as the portions are HUGE! Service was...odd... We were seated immediately and provided dim sum and drinks but no one came back check on us, give us menus and take our order. We finally went and grabbed our own menus and flagged someone down to take our order. There was no method or skill to the madness. Every waiter seemed panicked and didn't quite know what to do with our requests or the requests of others around us. Will definitely go back and bring more ppl next time to help us eat everything!

I wish I could give 5 stars to this restaurant but I think the price is a little too high for Chinese food. That being said their food is excellent.... One of the best I have tried and for sure the best since I moved to Indiana. Very good selection, quick service, and good size servings. The restaurant is very nice looking and nice so I guess they can justify the price with good food and a very nice establishment. Looking forward to try more items from their menu.

Thoroughly average Chinese restaurant. Dim, low-key ambience. Large portions. Prices are reasonable for the area. Tea is dark and a little too strong. Rice is passable - but it's a rare Chinese restaurant that actually does rice well, in the not-so-humble opinion of this SE asian snob. A decent selection of vegetarian dishes; spiciness was also at a good level. But nary a hint of crab nor scallion in the crab rangoons - just straight up cream cheese. Huh? Oh, well, we're in Indiana, I guess.

After all of the good reviews, I think I got my hopes up a bit... Don't get me wrong, the general tso's chicken was tasty.

If it wasn't for the convenient location, I don't know if I'd ever come here. I've dined here twice and have done carryout 3 times, and each time it's been mediocre, at best. The prices are pretty high considering what you get. Most of the protein dishes that are served w/ vegetables are primarily vegetables (onions, celery, green pepper, water chestnuts, etc.). We ordered a shrimp and scallop dish a couple of weeks ago, and we found only 3 very thinly cut scallops (the same width as thinly sliced water chestnuts) and maybe 6 super small shrimp. And what's up with only giving one box of rice when someone orders multiple dishes, none of which are noodle dishes??? The one good thing (other than location) is that I don't think they use much MSG. So, for a quick Chinese food fix, this place is passable, but fine dining it is not. I'd pick Panda Express over this place, and this is coming from a Chinese person.

Not impressed. Staff was nice but the food was average at best. We had the Orange Beef, Cashew Chicken and the Combination lo-mien. Food was overall fairly bland and the sauces were pasty.

Not bad, not great. Atmosphere pleasant. Food predictable. Big plus: they use nice blue-and-white china plates and serving dishes that all match. I hate when chinese restaurants give me tacky melmac even if it's printed with 5-toed imperial dragons. OK, I have skewed values. The potstickers were good. The accompanying sauce was quite delicious -- maybe not out of a bottle -- seemed to have fresh grated ginger in it. Ask what's on the hand-written Chinese menu as well as the glossy printed menu.

Spending a few days at Purdue recruiting and stopped in for dinner. The egg drop soup and the combination fried rice are delicious. The staff are courteous and very friendly. Would recommend this place and would definitely come back again.

I think their food has really gone downhill. My daughter and I got takeout from there recently. The lemon chicken was just chicken with PINEAPPLE sauce, and the Peking duck was just plain duck meat. No sides, no eggrolls, nothing. Expensive, too! I decided to give them another chance, having sworn off this restaurant about four years ago because they wouldn't let me pay for my nearly-nine-dollar takeout order with my debit card. "$10.00 minimum!" Apparently entirely inflexible. We went to McDonald's instead, because I had no cash and the SG cashier just looked at me dumbly when I said it was the debit card or nothing.

One of the better Chinese eateries in the Greater Lafayette area. The menu is fairly expansive, and everything is reasonably priced for the amount that you get (which is usually a lot). The Chow Mein and potstickers were fantastic.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
